Previously, he was a parish minister and taught at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1989 to 1990 he was a Peace Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace.

"Historical biblical criticism is bankrupt." That startling affirmation began The Bible in Human Transformation when it first appeared in 1975. Wink asserts that despite the valuable contributions of the historical-critical method, we have reached the point where this method is incapable of allowing Scripture to evoke personal and social transformation today. More than thirty years later, Wink now looks back in a new preface over the more and less humanizing developments in New Testament studies of the last few decades and renews his call for a transforming approach to biblical interpretation.

I have read other books by Wink, which are generally not easy to read, but still highly engaging. I found this book clear, succinct, and helpful. I leave a tape measure on the book to invite women to investigate the contents. I looked in it but it was empty. There was a large chart that illustrated the different lettering, I found this item alone worth the price offered.
ALso, the gold leaf was new and unused.
THe item is a large hardcover box and when it opens up up it reviels ink, bamboo nib, roll of parchment 7 nibs, 2 tubs of acrilic paints (mine had dryed up) no problem. My daughter is only one year old, and she is captivated by this book that I am sure will stay a favorite as she grows older and grasps even more of the meaning. I want to meditate but I just can't slow my thoughts down long enough to feel the time has been well spent. The author does a disservice to any message about oil and gas depletion he is trying to convey. If you open this paperback book to the mid
