Well worth the money.. At one end you have Robert Graves's historical fiction, on the other those that take ancient sources' contention of mental deficiency at its face. Our library only gets money if we ask for it. It stiffened his spine. The illustrations are excellent, vintage Howe, and the "pop-up" effects are better than average (I have kids, I've seen some poor attempts at pop-up.) But for some reason they didn't think to include the story! Each page has a pull out card that includes actual Tolkien text to "set the scene" of each illustration, but there is no context, no sense of story at all. This little book is great for classroom discussions. The joys of being born human, the fact that our actions have consequences, the natural progression of growing older, becoming sick and dying, having compassion for all sentient beings.
