A major feature of the rise of Islamism in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and parts of the West is the rapid growth of a starkly repressive version of Islamic shari'a law, often fueled by funds and support from Saudi Arabia. The book does a very good job at keeping the reader interested in even the topics that aren't the most exciting. I believe carefully selected articles are a better use of students' time and money.. (My experience, and, surely more than myself have had this, themselves.)
